Restoration comedy was notorious for being full of humour which was saucy and occasionally 'near the knuckle' but this 1675 tale of a 'Rake' who feigned impotence in order to trap an innocent newcomer to London society apparently went a little too far.  After surviving the first 78 years of its life it disappeared from the repertoire for 171 years until resurfacing in 1924.
