Clubbing: Fracture Clinic at Lakota

Thursday 19th March 2009

What are birthdays for if not getting a little over-excited?

The guys behind Fracture Clinic, usually monthly at Timbuk2, certainly let themselves get slightly carried away when planning their party’s first anniversary tomorrow (March 20) – upgrading venues to the gigantic Lakota and filling four rooms with multiple headliners serving up drum’n’bass, breaks, electro, house, dubstep and more besides.

Topping the bill is Adam F (pictured right), who, as the son of Alvin Stardust, has had to work hard to achieve underground credibility.

He’s managed it with ease, though, thanks to releasing drum’n’bass anthems like Circles and Brand New Funk, producing US hip-hop superstars like LL Cool J and Redman, and running possibly drum’n’bass’s most iconic label in Breakbeat Kaos.

In room one with Adam F is the new live project from one of breakbeat’s biggest names, Rennie Pilgrem, whose band the TCR Allstars includes many of the most talented musicians from his long-running label TCR.

Botchit & Scarper labelmates Atomic Hooligan and Mr Sushi also play live ahead of DJ sets from local boys DJ Bunjy (Laid Black) and Jackov & Kallendar with MC Frilla.

Rennie Pilgrem also DJs in room two, where further breaks and house-filled selections come from Lee Coombs, General Midi, the Breakfastaz and Robosapiens.

Room three, meanwhile, features the welcome return of prolific bass scientist Baobinga (pictured above), taking time out of his Body Snatchers project with Bristol’s 30hz, and rising stars of dubstep Kutz and Hijak, alongside Tempa’s Benny Ill.

Room four will keep you guessing with a hotchpotch of beatboxing, hip-hop, dub and old skool jungle from the likes of Joe Driscoll and Pirates Anthem’s DJ Task, while livening up the whole venue will be fire and circus performers, graffiti artists, face painters and more.

“We want people to have their best time at Fracture Clinic yet,” says promoter John Waddup, “and do you know what? With this line-up, we think they just might.”

Entrance costs £12 in advance, more on the door.
